The Core Message

The core belief that informs our training is that all behaviour is communication. By understanding the motivations behind different behaviours we can de-escalate situations and create long term strategies to support positive behaviour cultures and reduce the need for physical restraint.

What You’ll Learn during Team Teach’s Behaviour Support Training

We believe all behaviour is communication driven by experiences and emotions. Our training programmes help you understand the drivers and motivations displayed by distressed individuals and learn positive ways to manage challenging situations.

We believe that all behaviour is communication being driven by experiences and emotions and our approach is 95% understanding behaviours, using preventative strategies and encouraging de-escalation. There may still be a need to manage physical risk on a variety of levels and you will learn how to safely apply fully risk assessed physical interventions.

Following a training needs analysis, we will create a bespoke set of modules that will equip everyone within the team with the confidence and strategies needed to support positive behaviour cultures.

Types of Positive Behaviour Management courses.

This is a one day (6 hour) course that is for staff and carers supporting individuals in settings where there is a need to focus on de-escalation, risk prevention and non-restrictive strategies

Participants will gain a detailed understanding of the drivers behind behaviours of concern, and the legal context around behaviour support. It equips participants with strategies of communication and de-escalation, both verbal and non-verbal, for supporting people who present with distressed behaviours. It teaches simple and safe ways of working using a shared language to promote a consistent, respectful approach to behaviour support which maintains positive relationships. This course will provide everyone within the team with a good understanding of the values and philosophy of the Team Teach approach. Included in the strategies of de-escalation is understanding where someone may be in a crisis and how to support them using appropriate responses for that individual; how to practice relevant verbal scripts and respond to an identified need and support individuals in distress using a consistent team approach.

The course will also look at the legal framework and cover relevant legislation and guidance, as well as best practice when reporting and reviewing incidents and documentation. This supports how a person-centred review will support individuals and organisations in learning and adapting to situations that change. This includes how to build and restore relationships as well as learn and reduce the likelihood for any future situations.

Where there are situations of lower risk physical behaviours, staff will be able to respond appropriately and proportionately as and when necessary to maintain their personal safety and to prompt and guide distressed individuals.

Delivery Methods

We have a Blended learning option for our Level 1 course with 50% of the learning being delivered via online modules on our training platform which introduces Team Teach theory and with 3 hours of independent self-paced learning creating flexibility for organisations and reducing release time for staff.

Our Level 1 courses is offered as a public or private course. Our public courses are scheduled by us throughout the year and are hosted in public venues and open for anyone to join. For these events spaces are limited. Our Private courses are available for you to book and are held within your setting/venue of your choice. These programmes are specifically tailored to your setting.

This is a two day (12 hour) course that is for staff and carers supporting individuals in health and social care organisations where they are working in areas where there is an identified need to focus on de-escalation, risk prevention and non-restrictive and low level restrictive strategies. The two-day Team Teach training has been described by my staff as “the best training we have had in a long time”. The training helped staff to come together as a body to support each other and it really enhanced our de-escalation tactics. The facilitator was outstanding, she inspired and motivated the staff with her delivery, and I would highly recommend Team Teach to schools.

Team Teach is a tried and trusted package which we have used for many years in our SEMH setting. It encompasses everything our pupils need; from low level de-escalation in the classroom, up to diffusing high levels of aggression using techniques that are well thought out. The course deliverers understand the behaviours we deal with and are able to speak from first-hand experience, which only adds to the integrity of the course content.
