Why Behaviour Support Training Matters

Published On: 18 August 2025

In this episode, Clare talks to Team Teach trainer, Amanda Brady-Fujita, about the importance of providing behaviour support training to frontline workers.

They discuss some of the challenges faced by practitioners and how high-quality training can equip staff with the knowledge, skills, and understanding to reduce risk, de-escalate situations, and support behaviour effectively.

Amanda has a background in nursing, working in mainstream hospitals and residential aged care, supporting elderly clients in secure dementia wings.

As Amanda’s career evolved, she moved into the disability sector. She has extensive experience of managing and mentoring staff, to help them support individuals with a wide range of complex behaviours.

Amanda shares three tips during the episode:

  • The return on investment for behaviour support training is invaluable.
  • Building staff confidence and competence is essential for facilitating effective professional practice.
  • Team Teach training focuses on the ‘95%’ of proactive behaviour support – de-escalation strategies, risk reduction, and relationship-building – all of which can reduce the need for physical interventions.
